How Dress To Depress Came To Be…

Dress to Depress was born out of my mom’s adamant refusal to buy me clothes from SHEIN. During the height of the pandemic, and the rise of online stores such as SHEIN, I absolutely did not want to fall behind on any trends I might miss out on in an already isolated world. What felt like an unreasonable answer from my mom pushed me to ask why, and the answers shocked me.

I learned about the human cost of fast fashion, the massive environmental damage, and the cycle of overconsumption hidden behind cheap prices and endless trends. My feelings of disappointment from not getting a haul turned into a flame of passion to spread awareness of these growing issues.

This blog is my way of unpacking the true story behind the clothes we wear and rethinking what fashion should mean – for the people, for the planet, and for the culture.
